The Catholic Church in Italy has introduced new guidelines that allow young gay men to train as priests, as long as they do not actively support “gay culture” or practice homosexuality.
The guidelines, approved by the Vatican, stress celibacy and chastity, emphasizing that those who openly flaunt their homosexuality or have deeply rooted homosexual tendencies should be excluded from seminaries.
The document highlights that individuals with such tendencies may still be respected but cannot be admitted to the seminary or Holy Orders. The aim is for candidates to embrace chastity as a gift and live in celibacy.
Pope Francis, known for his inclusive stance towards LGBTQ+ individuals, has previously stated that he does not judge those seeking the Lord, regardless of sexual orientation.
However, he has also expressed concerns about the presence of gay men in seminaries, using a derogatory term in a private meeting with Italian bishops.
