In a bold assertion, he declared his unshakable commitment to securing the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), from unjust detention.During the event held at the Aguiyironsi Conference Centre in Umuahia, Aguocha underscored Kanu’s significance as his direct constituent, which compels him to actively advocate for Kanu’s freedom. He recounted a recent face-off with service chiefs, emphasizing his unyielding stance against Kanu’s prolonged unlawful detention and his resolve to amplify the voice of his constituents, regardless of any intimidation tactics.
Aguocha stressed a crucial point: the worsening insecurity in the South East, attributing part of the problem to Kanu’s continuous imprisonment against court orders. He urged the federal government to heed the growing chorus of demands for Kanu’s release, citing its potential to expose those exploiting the Biafra cause for criminal activities in the region.Highlighting the imperative of Kanu’s release for restoring peace, Aguocha urged compliance with court directives. He pointed out that resolving Kanu’s detention aligns with addressing the region’s heightened insecurity, calling for an end to the misuse of the Biafra agitation to foment chaos.
Furthermore, the lawmaker implored journalists to fearlessly uphold truth and accountability, recognizing the pivotal role of the press in democracy. He urged them to continue their objective reporting, emphasizing the importance of factual and unbiased journalism in society’s advancement.
