Algeria has accused France of orchestrating a “disinformation campaign” as tensions escalate between the two nations.
The dispute stems from Algeria’s rejection of France’s deportation of an Algerian social media influencer, Doualemn, and France’s alleged support for Morocco’s stance on the Western Sahara issue.
Algeria claims France violated a 1974 consular agreement by not notifying Algerian authorities about Doualemn’s deportation. The Foreign Ministry emphasized that Algeria’s actions were not intended to humiliate France, but rather to ensure the influencer faced French judicial proceedings.
This incident adds to ongoing friction, particularly regarding France’s backing of Morocco’s autonomy proposal in Western Sahara, which Algeria opposes.
