At the conclusion of Shiloh 2024, held from December 11 to 15 at Living Faith Church Worldwide in Canaanland, Ota, Bishop David Oyedepo shared profound insights on divine wisdom and prosperity. The event, themed “Ever Winning Wisdom,” focused on applying God’s wisdom to achieve victory in life.

One notable discussion was his response to criticism about churches acquiring private jets. According to Oyedepo, owning private jets is not a sin but a reflection of God’s prosperity. He explained that the church, not being a charity but a platform for prosperity, has the right to accumulate wealth, including luxury items like private jets, as long as they align with biblical principles.

Citing Psalm 24:1, “The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it,” the bishop asserted that churches are entitled to claim their inheritance and use resources to further God’s work. He encouraged church leaders to embrace their wealth, not to boast but to advance the kingdom of God.

The five-day event featured numerous activities such as Encounter Nights and Youth & Minister Conferences, broadcast globally through platforms like YouTube, DSTV, and GOtv.

While some view the purchase of private jets by churches as extravagant, Bishop Oyedepo’s explanation presents a theological perspective where prosperity is a tool for fulfilling a divine mission. Whether or not one agrees, it’s clear that Oyedepo believes in a God who blesses his followers with abundance. The focus should perhaps shift from the materiality of such possessions to their potential for supporting charitable and spiritual causes. The church’s role, according to Oyedepo, is not just to preach but also to influence and lead by example in the world.
