South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has revealed that six additional nations – Argentina, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates – are set to attain full membership in the Brics organization starting from January 1, 2024.
This expansion comes after a comprehensive Brics business program, held in preparation for the summit, aimed at fostering investments, collaborative ventures, and showcasing opportunities across South Africa, Africa, and Brics member nations.
The summit, hosted by South Africa, witnessed Russia and China directing criticism towards Western nations.
This year’s Brics Summit marked a significant event as it was the first in-person gathering since the Covid-19 pandemic emerged in 2019. Concluding on August 24, 2023, the summit represented a platform for member countries to come together and engage in discussions around mutual interests and global challenges.
