Burkina Faso has unveiled its first locally assembled electric car, ITAOUA, a fully solar-powered vehicle capable of traveling 330 kilometers after just 30 minutes of charging, officials announced Wednesday.
The production plant, located in Ouaga 2000, marks a significant milestone in the country’s push for green technology and industrial growth. Authorities say the project will create thousands of jobs and boost the economy.
“This is a historic moment for Burkina Faso,” a government spokesperson said, highlighting the country’s ambition to lead in sustainable mobility in West Africa.
The ITAOUA electric car is expected to reduce dependence on fuel imports and offer an eco-friendly alternative to conventional vehicles.
The government has not disclosed mass production timelines, but officials say local and regional markets will be the first targets for sales.
