Kinshasa, DRC — President Felix Tshisekedi of the Democratic Republic of Congo is poised to dismiss several high-ranking security officials following a failed coup attempt in the capital, Kinshasa, on Sunday.

According to sources close to the presidency, Tshisekedi commended the military for their swift and decisive response to the threat. However, he expressed deep dissatisfaction with the security lapses that allowed the commandos to partially occupy the Palais de la Nation, the presidential office.

The partial occupation of Tshisekedi’s offices is considered a “serious mistake” by the president, who has yet to make a public statement on the incident. Insiders suggest that a significant reshuffle within the security forces is imminent as Tshisekedi seeks to rectify the vulnerabilities exposed by the coup attempt.

Meanwhile, international observers, including several African and Western embassies such as those of the United States and Turkey, are closely monitoring the situation. Neighboring Congo-Brazzaville has also heightened its vigilance following the incident.

While no official statements have been made regarding the identities of those behind the coup attempt, multiple sources point to Christian Malanga, a former captain in the Congolese army now residing in the United States, as the leader of the commando unit involved in the assault.

The government has yet to provide further details on the arrests or the motivations behind the coup attempt, leaving the country and international community in a state of heightened alert and anticipation for further developments.
