M23 Rebel leader Corneille Nangaa held a rally in Goma on Thursday, addressing thousands of supporters despite an international arrest warrant against him.
Speaking at Stade de l’Unité alongside fellow rebel Bertrand Busimwa, Nangaa declared his intent to continue his rebellion until reaching the Democratic Republic of Congo capital, Kinshasa.
His rally in Goma defied Congolese authorities, who have accused him of destabilizing the country.
The rally comes amid escalating tensions in eastern Congo, where M23 rebels, backed by Rwanda, recently seized Goma.
Authorities have not yet responded to Nangaa’s public defiance.
