A judge in Haiti has indicted Martine Moïse, widow of President Jovenel Moïse, along with ex-Prime Minister Claude Joseph and former police chief Léon Charles, among others, in connection with the president’s assassination in July 2021.

The indictment, issued by Judge Walther Wesser Voltaire, includes serious charges such as murder, attempted murder, and criminal association. The report implicates several individuals, including Haitian-American pastor Christian Emmanuel Sanon and former Haitian senator John Joël Joseph, in what U.S. prosecutors describe as a plot involving mercenaries to kill President Moïse.

Meanwhile, Martine Moïse faces accusations of complicity and criminal association. The investigation has seen multiple judges and involves over 40 suspects awaiting trial, with some already extradited to the U.S. for federal charges. Amidst allegations and calls for justice, the case sheds light on the complexities surrounding the assassination and its aftermath in Haiti.
