The bid to remove Ghana’s Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo has reignited criticism on court-packing, constitutional loopholes and the erosion of institutional integrity in a country long hailed as a jewel of democracy and rule of law in Africa.

The move – unprecedented under Ghana’s 1992 constitution – raises fundamental questions about the politicisation of the judiciary.
