In Goma, emotions run high as the community grapples with the loss of former boxing champion, Kibomango, who tragically died amidst the escalating violence of the M23 rebels. His death, caused by a stray bullet during intense gunfire, has left the city in mourning.

Kibomango, a former child soldier who rose to become a boxing champion, was dedicated to guiding Goma’s youth away from violence. He founded the “Club de l’Amitié” boxing academy to help street children build a better future. His passing is deeply felt, with many wondering how the community will recover.

As his brother, Mashara Espoir, recounted: “There were several gunshots, and he was hit by a stray bullet that killed him… we never learned the full truth, but the situation was grave.”

Kibomango’s legacy as a symbol of hope and resilience lives on, with calls from the people of Goma urging leaders to end the ongoing war. “We are suffering too much; many are left orphaned,” said Marcellin Lufugula. Kibomango’s dedication to peace will forever remain in the hearts of Goma’s youth.Attach
