Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian have died in a helicopter crash, according to reports from Reuters and confirmed by Iranian state media.
The crash occurred Sunday in the mountainous terrain of East Azerbaijan province amid icy weather. Rescue teams located the wreckage on Monday, confirming no survivors among the passengers.
President Raisi, 63, and the foreign minister were en route to Tabriz when their Bell 212 helicopter encountered heavy fog, causing a “hard landing.” Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has reassured the nation of continued state stability.
