In a recent interview, veteran Nollywood actor Kanayo O. Kanayo discussed the reasons why many women in their 30s remain unmarried. He attributed it to choices made in their earlier years, particularly the relationships they pursued in their 20s. Kanayo explained that many women at that age often enter relationships with wealthy, older men, which leads them to overlook potential suitors of their own age.

He said, “Some girls in their early 20s date much older, wealthy men. They reject younger suitors, believing that the lifestyle they’re living is superior. By the time they reach their late 20s or 30s, they are left with few options as their attractiveness diminishes and the marriage prospects narrow.”

Kanayo also humorously stated that women often go through stages: at 23, they are “a flex,” at 28 they become a “prayer point,” and by 33, they are in a “state of emergency” when it comes to finding a partner. He suggested that some women continue to have fun well into their 30s, but they fail to realize the urgency of settling down at that point.

While Kanayo’s comments highlight one possible scenario, it is important to remember that many factors can contribute to a woman’s decision to remain unmarried in her 30s. Societal pressures, career goals, personal growth, and the search for compatible partners all play significant roles. Singleness is not necessarily a result of poor choices or missed opportunities, but rather a reflection of individual circumstances, priorities, and timing.
