A prayer for a husband for Charlene Ruto, daughter of Kenya’s President, William Ruto, has ignited a flurry of online reactions across the country. The incident occurred during a mass prayer meeting led by American preacher Benny Hinn over the weekend in Nairobi, Kenya’s capital.
Ms. Ruto, alongside thousands of attendees, sought prayers for her calling to work with young people.
As Benny Hinn called for those with prayer requests to come forward, Ms. Ruto approached, prompting the preacher to pray for her and later inquire if there were any specific requests. She whispered into his ear, leading to a public prayer for a husband who would support her in her endeavors.
“Give her a husband that will fulfill that call with her… she needs a husband soon,” Benny Hinn prayed.
The prayer for a husband immediately sparked discussions online, with Kenyans expressing a range of opinions. Some criticized the prayer, while others offered marriage proposals, and some even mocked the situation.
Responding to the incident, one Kenyan on social media wrote, “My name is Omwamba, a hustler, and I am reaching out to you after witnessing your heartfelt request for a husband… God has sent me your way.” Meanwhile, others supported Ms. Ruto’s request, emphasizing the sanctity of marriage.
“There is nothing wrong with Charlene Ruto asking Benny Hinn to pray for her to get a good husband. Marriage is sacred,” remarked another Kenyan.
The online reactions reflect the diversity of opinions in Kenya regarding marriage, spirituality, and public figures’ personal lives. The incident has drawn attention to Ms. Ruto and sparked discussions about the role of prayer in personal matters.
