Lagos youths have strongly opposed the endorsement of Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as a candidate for the Lagos State Governorship in 2027. The Coalition of Lagos Indigenous Youths, led by Abdul Kareem Whyte, stated that this endorsement disregards the rights of Lagos indigenes to govern their state.
They criticized the long-standing marginalization of the state’s indigenous people and expressed concerns about neglecting local development. The group also called on the Oba of Lagos to remain cautious about those claiming indigenous status for political gain ahead of the elections.
It is evident that local concerns about governance and development in Lagos are a priority for its indigenous youth. Their opposition to external influences in the state’s leadership reflects deeper issues of representation and fairness that will likely shape future elections.
