Meta announced the restoration of Donald Trump’s Facebook and Instagram accounts, removing previous suspension penalties.
Initially suspended following the January 6 Capitol riot, the accounts were reinstated with conditional penalties in February 2023. Now, as a Republican presidential nominee, Trump’s accounts are fully restored. Meta emphasized that all presidential candidates are subject to the same Community Standards as other users, ensuring fair political expression while preventing hate speech and incitement to violence.
Trump, who has primarily used his own platform, Truth Social, continues to have a significant presence on Facebook with 34 million followers, where he shares posts, rally invitations, and campaign videos. This move is seen as part of Meta’s broader effort to balance political discourse with community safety standards.
