A Turkish businessman has reportedly been kidnapped in Mozambique’s capital, Maputo, witnesses have told local media say.
According to witnesses who spoke under anonymity conditions, criminals pounced on the businessman on Monday afternoon.
The Turkish man whose name is yet to be known, was kidnapped near the headquarters of government’s Information Office where he had parked his car.
A witness that identified himself as an employee of the victim narrated that the businessman was seized and taken to the criminals’ vehicle moments after getting out of his car:
“The bandits fired just one shot into the air and we all stayed on the ground” but some “ran fearing for their lives.”
Kidnappings have once again emerged in the rebel-infested southern country forcing the government to form an anti-abduction unit.
