LAGOS, February 27, 2025 — Former Lagos State Assembly Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, has made a dramatic return to the Assembly complex today, backed by heavy security forces.

Obasa, who had been removed from his position on January 13, 2025, while abroad in the United States, has seized the Speaker’s office, marking his first appearance since his removal.

This bold move comes after police withdrew security from the current Speaker, Mrs. Mojisola Meranda, and from the Assembly, leaving the premises under Obasa’s control. “I am back, and I am here to reclaim what is rightfully mine,” Obasa declared as he entered the building.

Obasa had previously filed a lawsuit challenging his removal, though the case has yet to be heard in court. The power struggle has raised tensions, especially after the February 17, 2025 sitting when lawmakers condemned the presence of State Security Service operatives who tried to block access to key offices in the Assembly, leading to an indefinite adjournment.

One anonymous Assembly member commented, “The situation is becoming increasingly tense, and it’s uncertain where it will lead.” More updates on this developing situation will follow.Attach
