Namibia is preparing for a crucial election as the ruling SWAPO party seeks to extend its 34-year rule. Henning Melber, a SWAPO associate, called it “the most tense election since independence,” with high frustration over issues like unemployment and corruption.

Vice President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, SWAPO’s candidate, could become Namibia’s first female president, but faces strong competition, including from Panduleni Itula, who came second in the 2019 election. With rising discontent, especially among young voters, the outcome remains uncertain.

This election is a critical moment for Namibia, with the possibility of change in leadership and direction for the country.
