A coalition of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) and Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) has called on Southeast governors to take stronger action against rising insecurity.

According to the communique released after the Southeast Stakeholders Summit, they criticized governors for not advocating enough for the region.

The group also highlighted that “the continued detention of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu” is worsening the situation and urged for his release, stating, “The issues are essentially political and can only be resolved through a political solution.”

The coalition emphasized the need for better coordination among governors, citing corruption and politicization as obstacles to effective security responses.

They also called for “oversight and accountability” over state-backed security outfits like Agunechemba in Anambra, which have raised concerns about human rights violations.
