The 141 MW Aba Integrated Power Project (Aba IPP), financed by Afreximbank, was inaugurated in Abia State by the Vice President of Nigeria, H.E Kashim Shettima.

This pioneering initiative, the first of its kind in Nigeria, can generate and distribute 141 MW of power across nine local government areas within the Aba ring-fenced zone.

Afreximbank’s substantial investment in Nigeria’s power sector, totaling over USD 900 million, highlights its commitment to addressing challenges such as liquidity, debt, and profitability. The vertically integrated Aba IPP model ensures direct power supply to the community while contributing surplus electricity to the national grid.

Equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure, including gas turbines and distribution substations, the project aims to bolster industrialization efforts in the strategic Aba metropolis, creating over 370,000 direct and indirect jobs.Additionally, it promises indirect benefits such as improved infrastructure, enhanced services, increased agricultural productivity, and support for rural electrification and tourism.
