In an interview with Arise TV, Bishop Matthew Kukah expressed concern about religious bias in Nigerian universities, particularly in the north.
He noted that many Northern institutions prohibit the establishment of Christian worship places on their grounds. Kukah criticized the decline in diversity and merit-based policies in these universities, citing examples like the construction of a mosque at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and the refusal of universities in Northern Nigeria to allow churches to be built on their premises.
He highlighted the importance of integration and interrelation among students and criticized the growing ethnic and religious considerations in Nigerian colleges. Additionally, Kukah mentioned his efforts to address this issue with the Minister of Education and the Nigerian University Commission.
