The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) is demanding a public apology from the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) after an Easter-themed advert on social media sparked outrage among the Christian community.

The FIRS posted an image on Twitter featuring a point-of-sale machine with the caption, “Jesus paid your debts, not your taxes,” leading to criticism and calls for retraction and apology from CAN’s National Director of National Issues and Social Welfare, Abimbola Ayuba.

CAN emphasized the need for respectful communication strategies and religious harmony in Nigeria, urging public and private organizations to consider the diverse religious backgrounds of Nigerians in their messaging.
