The Federal High Court in Abuja has directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognize Chief Olusola Nehemiah and Ezekiel Awude as the Labour Party’s governorship and deputy governorship candidates for the upcoming Ondo State election.
Justice Emeka Nwite, in his ruling, stated, “INEC is to accept and publish the names of Nehemiah and Awude as the valid candidates.” The court’s decision came after Nehemiah and the Labour Party challenged INEC’s refusal to acknowledge the candidates following a second primary election.
Justice Nwite confirmed the legality of the second primary and noted that Nehemiah had deposited ₦20 million for the nomination process. Additionally, the court ruled that Nehemiah was to reimburse Olorunfemi Ayodele Festus ₦5 million for expenses after his withdrawal from the race, declaring that all conditions for the candidacy had been fulfilled.
