The Take It Back (TIB) movement has sued the United Bank for Africa (UBA) for freezing its account during the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protests. The lawsuit, led by human rights lawyer Inibehe Effiong, claims the freeze is “unlawful and unconstitutional,” violating constitutional rights to property.
Tomide Johnson, TIB’s Southwest Coordinator, stated the account was frozen on July 26, 2024, preventing financial transactions and causing operational disruptions. Despite efforts to communicate with UBA, the restrictions remain. TIB is seeking a court order to lift the freeze and compensation for financial damages.
