The High Court of the Federal Capital Territory has directed the Inspector-General of Police to compensate Prof Zainab Abiola with N50 million for violating her fundamental rights during a controversial arrest at her Abuja residence in 2022.

The court ruled that the police unlawfully detained and subjected her to torture without trial, emphasizing the violation of her personal liberty and dignity. Additionally, the police are mandated to issue a public apology in two national newspapers as part of the judgment.
