On October 19, 2024, the national grid experienced its third collapse within a week, with power generation ceasing early Saturday morning at 8:16 AM. Previously, the grid had tripped on Monday and Tuesday during restoration efforts.
Reports indicated that power generation had reached 3,042 megawatts by 8 AM, peaking at 3,968 MW at 7 AM, but plummeted to just 47 MW by 9 AM.At the time of reporting, allocations to power distribution companies were recorded at 0 MW.
The cause of this latest collapse remains unclear, as the Transmission Company of Nigeria was unavailable for comment. This ongoing instability raises serious concerns about the reliability of the nation’s power infrastructure and its impact on daily life.
