Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, representing Abia South senatorial district, has expressed concern over President Bola Tinubu’s appointments, stating that they breach the federal character law, which requires the balancing of appointments across the six geo-political zones. Abaribe noted that this practice of ethnic and regional concentration in appointments started during the Buhari administration and has negatively impacted the country’s economy. He criticized Tinubu for continuing this pattern and concentrating over 22 critical positions on his kinsmen, exceeding what Buhari did. Abaribe emphasized that this practice sets a wrong precedent and has become a cultural norm in Nigerian politics.
