Nigeria has expressed its warm congratulations to Joseph Aoun, Lebanon’s newly elected president. Aoun, who received 99 votes in Lebanon’s 128-seat parliament, marks the end of a two-year leadership vacuum in the country.
Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through spokesperson Kimiebi Ebienfa, reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to enhancing its long-standing relationship with Lebanon, stating, “We eagerly anticipate building upon our strong and historic relationship for the mutual benefit of our citizens.”
Joseph Aoun, previously the head of Lebanon’s army, is set to navigate Lebanon through recovery and stability, following a period of political deadlock. His leadership is seen as essential in implementing key agreements, including a ceasefire with Israel.
He aims to reclaim control from Hezbollah and rebuild war-torn areas, with an estimated cost of $8.5 billion. Nigeria, aligning itself with Lebanon’s progress, is poised to support these efforts.
