A small group of #EndBadGovernance protesters gathered at Gani Fawehinmi Park on Sunday morning, expressing their dissatisfaction with President Bola Tinubu’s recent address to the nation.
The protesters claimed that the President did not adequately address the core issues they had raised, despite acknowledging some efforts by his administration. Security personnel, including policemen, were present to maintain order, restricting the protesters from holding a procession beyond the designated area. The protesters complied without resistance.
In his broadcast earlier that day, Tinubu urged the youth to suspend their protests and opt for dialogue, reassuring them of his commitment to good governance. He defended the removal of the petrol subsidy as a necessary economic reform, a move that has led to significant increases in petrol prices and inflation, worsening the economic situation for many Nigerians.
The reinstatement of the petrol subsidy has been a clear demand of the young Nigerians protesting since Thursday. There are currently more policemen than protesters in the Ojota area of Lagos.
