In a recent statement, Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule disclosed that 80% of the illegally recruited secondary school teachers in the state are unable to write even basic letters.

This revelation came after the Governor emphasized his administration’s stance on not absorbing these teachers, whom he accused of lacking the necessary qualifications.

He explained that some of them paid as much as 600,000 to 700,000 naira for positions, despite being underqualified for the roles. Governor Sule vowed to investigate the illegal recruitment process, highlighting that it undermined the state’s efforts to reform its educational system.

“If we are helping them, we are not helping our educational system,” he said, stressing that employing unqualified teachers would only hinder progress. He also pointed out that many of the recruits refused postings to rural areas, preferring to remain in urban centers like Lafia, Akwanga, and Keffi.

The Governor also mentioned that his administration would organize a new selection process to ensure that only the best-qualified candidates are hired, reinforcing his commitment to improving Nasarawa’s educational standards.
