The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed that Nigerian pastor Paul Adefarasin, founder of House on the Rock Church, is under investigation following the emergence of a viral video showing him holding what appears to be a gun-like object during a roadside encounter.
In a statement posted on the Command’s official X (formerly Twitter) account on Tuesday, authorities said Adefarasin turned himself in at the police headquarters in Ikeja. He is currently being questioned by detectives as part of an ongoing investigation into the incident.
“No one is above the law,” the police statement read. “Pastor Paul Adefarasin has turned himself in at the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters, Ikeja, and is currently being interrogated by detectives who have commenced investigation on the case since a video surfaced online showing the pastor holding a gun-like object against another road user, while driving in an unregistered vehicle.”
The short video clip, widely shared on social media, shows Adefarasin speaking to an individual outside his vehicle while holding a metallic object in his hand. Online reactions quickly spread, with many alleging the object was a firearm.
In response to the allegations, Adefarasin addressed the incident through a message shared on his verified social media accounts. He denied possessing or brandishing a weapon and described the situation as a misunderstanding. According to him, the object in question was not a firearm and was never aimed at anyone.
The Lagos State Police have stated that the outcome of the investigation will be made public in due course.
