Oshiomhole Says Atiku, Obi Will Be Defeated Again In Nigeria’s 2027 Presidential Election
Senator Adams Oshiomhole, who represents Edo North in the National Assembly, has said that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi have no realistic chance of defeating the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 presidential election.
Oshiomhole, a former Edo State governor and ex-national chairman of the APC, made the statement during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics.
He claimed that both Atiku and Obi have a long history of electoral defeats and that any attempt to reunite politically would not change their fate.
“Did Atiku not run with Obi before and contest against the APC? Were they not defeated?” Oshiomhole asked. “They have a history of being defeated together and a history of being defeated apart. If they come back together, they will still be defeated,” he said.
Atiku was the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 general election, while Obi ran under the Labour Party (LP).
Both men finished second and third respectively behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the APC, who was declared winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Recently, both opposition figures joined a new political coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), a move seen as an attempt to build a stronger platform ahead of the 2027 elections.
However, Oshiomhole dismissed the significance of the alliance, insisting that the APC remains the dominant force in Nigerian politics and would again prevail at the polls.
Adams Oshiomhole, a prominent member of the APC and one of its most vocal defenders, has been known for his blunt political remarks and open criticism of opposition leaders.
His latest comments come amid rising political realignments as Nigeria heads toward another major election cycle.
Atiku Abubakar, a former vice president and long-time presidential aspirant, has contested the presidency multiple times under different political parties.
Peter Obi, who gained significant popularity among young voters during the 2023 elections, has emerged as a key opposition figure pushing for a shift in Nigeria’s political direction.
Their recent alliance within the ADC has reignited discussions about whether the opposition can unite strongly enough to challenge the APC’s influence in 2027.
Political observers note that while the Atiku-Obi partnership could galvanize parts of the electorate, internal party interests and regional divides may still pose major obstacles.
