Date: August 24, 2025/Uganda

In August 2022, a remarkable sporting event brought together teams from Jinja NWSC and Iganga NWSC in a spirited display of unity, energy, and healthy competition. The day’s activities volleyball at 2:00 PM and soccer at 4:00 PM ended in both joy and mutual respect. Jinja NWSC claimed a 15-point volleyball victory, while the soccer match concluded in a 0:0 draw, symbolizing the balanced strength of both teams.
More than just games, these events fostered team building, motivation, and inter-branch collaboration the very cornerstones of a high performing organization. Staff from both branches returned to work re-energized, engaged, and determined, and the impact was visible in key performance areas such as marketing, sales, and collections.
Regrettably, since that memorable August in 2022, no inter-NWSC games have been organized. The absence of these sports activities has been deeply felt by staff across the region. Conversations with key players and staff members from various Jinja-area branches have revealed a shared sentiment: the games were more than entertainment they were a powerful tool for professional and organizational development.
Why the Inter-NWSC Games Matter
- Team Building & Unity
Sports break down hierarchical and departmental barriers, allowing staff at all levels to interact, bond, and build trust. These relationships are later reflected in improved interdepartmental collaboration and morale at the workplace. - Staff Motivation & Wellbeing
Physical activity is directly linked to mental health and overall job satisfaction. Employees who feel appreciated and engaged are more likely to perform better and remain loyal to the organization. - Enhanced Performance & Results
Evidence from the 2022 games showed a clear uptick in branch performance following the events. Energized teams tackled tasks with greater enthusiasm, leading to improved outcomes in sales, marketing, and customer service. - Organizational Culture & Corporate Image
A company that invests in the holistic well-being of its employees stands out as a people-centered organization. Internally, this boosts morale. Externally, it enhances NWSC’s image as a progressive, employee-friendly institution. - Talent Discovery & Representation
Sporting events provide a platform for discovering staff talents that may otherwise go unnoticed. They also create opportunities for representing NWSC in external competitions, further boosting the company’s visibility.

A Collective Request from the Field
Field conversations from staff across branches especially within the Jinja area have revealed a unified appeal to NWSC management: bring back the inter-branch sports and games. Employees fondly remember the excitement, camaraderie, and motivation these events brought. They view them not as optional extras, but as essential components of a high-performance culture.
The Way Forward
We respectfully urge NWSC management to consider restoring and institutionalizing annual or bi-annual inter-branch games across all regions. With proper planning and scheduling, these events can be seamlessly integrated into the corporate calendar without disrupting service delivery.
Additionally, involving staff in the organization of these games will increase ownership, accountability, and ensure alignment with NWSC’s values and goals.
Restoring the inter-NWSC sports and games is not merely about fun or recreation. It’s about reinvesting in the people who make NWSC’s vision a reality every day. It’s about reigniting the flame of unity, excellence, and purpose that drives performance and loyalty.
Let us bring back the spirit, the energy, and the team. Let us bring back the games.
