Safa Confident Bonus Talks With Bafana Will Be Settled Before Afcon
The South African Football Association (Safa) says discussions with Bafana Bafana players over Afcon 2025 bonuses are already underway, and things are moving smoothly.
Safa CEO Lydia Monyepao revealed that they started engaging the team early because they want to avoid the usual last-minute disagreements that have caused problems before major tournaments.
She believes both sides will reach an agreement before the national team begins camp on December 8 at the University of Pretoria.
Monyepao explained that she had already met with the players’ leadership group during the recent camp in Sandton.
Everyone has shared their expectations, and the next step is getting approval from all parties involved.
She stressed that the goal is to keep the team focused and prevent any situation like the recent bonus disputes seen in other African teams, such as Nigeria refusing to train ahead of a World Cup play-off.
As part of preparation for the Afcon tournament in Morocco, Safa also attended a CAF workshop to ensure they understand all compliance requirements.
The team is set to go into camp soon, and coach Hugo Broos will announce the final squad when ready.
CAF allows up to 27 players in a squad, but only 23 will have their expenses covered by CAF, meaning Safa must pay for any additional players.

Monyepao said they will follow Broos’ decision on whether he wants to take extra players to Morocco.
