The death toll from a Sudanese military plane crash in Omdurman has risen to 46, with 10 others injured, local media reported.
The incident occurred at the Wadi Seidna military airport in northern Omdurman on Tuesday, with the aircraft crashing shortly after takeoff. “The crash resulted in casualties among both military personnel and civilians,” said the Sudanese army.
Although no official details have been released regarding the cause of the crash, the plane went down in a residential area. The crash comes amid ongoing conflict between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which has been escalating since April 2023.
According to the United Nations, the war has led to more than 20,000 deaths and displaced 14 million people. Research from U.S. universities estimates that the death toll has reached approximately 130,000.
