Eswatini King, Mswati, has fled his country to an unknown destination as pro-democracy protests turn violent across the small mountainous southern African nation.

Pro-democracy protests which the King sought to silence using bullets and arbitrary arrests in recent days are a citizenry demand for political reforms, which Swaziland’s top security chiefs are now backing, local media reported.

The husband of many has called for support from regional governments after fleeing a mounting wave of violent protests in his Kingdom, a source at the Palace said.

“It’s people power at work. The King who is on the run now, has made several calls for support within the region though there’s no sign of help since the last call on Sunday.”

Mswati now on the run has created a social media buzz, especially among Zambians who have been suspicious of deals involving government heads for both Southern African countries.

The eSwatini King is a close ally of Zambia’s President Edgar Lungu who owns a Shopping Mall among other properties in Swaziland.

The monarchy has fled to God knows where but protesters continue calling for political reforms which among other things include the King’s surrendering of his absolute power to a democratically elected Prime Minister, non-interference in the country’s judiciary and other institutions of governance.
