A teenage tantrum has turned into a ticking time bomb, leaving a community reeling and a family shattered. Emmanuel Gyan, a 17-year-old from Wassa J.Y No.1 in the Sefwi Wiawso district, allegedly crossed the line from anger to annihilation, killing his 52-year-old mother, Faustina Agyeiwaa, over a missing memory card.

This senseless slaughter is a stark reminder that unmanaged emotions can be a recipe for disaster. The fact that a simple memory card could spark a deadly explosion of anger is a wake-up call for us all.

As the investigation unfolds, the million-dollar question on everyone’s mind is; what drove this teenager to commit such a heinous crime against his own mother? The answer lies in the mirror.

As a society, we need to take a long, hard look at ourselves and ask: are we teaching our children the value of life, respect, and emotional intelligence?

The loss of Faustina Agyeiwaa is a devastating reminder that our actions have consequences. As we mourn her passing, let us take this opportunity to reflect on our collective responsibility to raise a generation of empathetic, thoughtful, and peaceful individuals.

It is time to sound the alarm and teach our children that emotions, like fire, can be both creative and destructive, it is up to us to teach them how to harness the flame.
