In response to President Trump’s latest tariffs, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau declared, “Rather than partnership, punishment is what Trump has for us. We therefore respond.”
Canada will impose 25% tariffs on $155 billion worth of U.S. goods, targeting products like “beer, wine, bourbon, and orange juice from Trump’s home state of Florida.”
Trudeau warned, “Tariffs against Canada will put your jobs at risk, potentially shutting down American auto assembly plants and other manufacturing facilities.”
He stressed that Canada would not back down, urging citizens to support local businesses: “We didn’t ask for this but we will not back down.”
Trudeau also recalled the strong history of U.S.-Canada cooperation, saying, “From the beaches of Normandy to the mountains of the Korean Peninsula… we have fought and died alongside you during your darkest hours.”
