U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday proposed that the United States “take over” the Gaza Strip, relocate Palestinians to other countries, and transform the area into a luxury destination.
Speaking alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump described his vision of Gaza as “the Riviera of the Middle East,” drawing audible gasps from reporters. He did not elaborate on how such a plan would be implemented.
The announcement is expected to spark strong reactions across the region. Palestinian leaders have previously rejected any forced displacement and insist on their right to self-determination.
Netanyahu did not immediately comment on Trump’s proposal. The Israeli government has maintained its blockade on Gaza, citing security concerns.
The White House has yet to clarify whether the remarks reflect official U.S. policy or were an offhand statement by the president.
