The United States Military Veterans of Igbo Descent (AVIDUSA) have urged President Bola Tinubu to release IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu and return Nigeria to the 1963 regional autonomy, which they believe is key to resolving the nation’s socio-economic and security issues.
AVIDUSA recalled Kanu’s 2017 demands, such as upgrading Enugu and Owerri airports and revitalizing Southeast industries, during a meeting with Southeast governors. “On August 30, 2017, Nnamdi Kanu made these demands before the Southeast governors,” the group noted.
The veterans emphasized that Kanu had agreed to Professor Ben Nwabueze’s call for a return to the 1963 Constitution, which was followed by a government raid on his home, leading to tragic losses. AVIDUSA insists that Kanu’s release is necessary to address the Southeast’s grievances and promote national unity.
