At the prestigious 2024 Oscars ceremony in Los Angeles, Uganda’s opposition leader, Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, took the stage to share his vision for the future of his country. Amidst the glitz and glamour of Hollywood, Wine expressed his commitment to assuming the presidency of Uganda, stating, “When the day comes that I assume the presidency—because I am confident it will—I am committed to ensuring that my time in office is limited.”
Wine’s remarks came as his documentary, ‘Bobi Wine: The People’s President,’ received a nomination for ‘Best Documentary’ at the Oscars, highlighting his resilient struggle against the Ugandan government forces in the lead-up to the 2021 election. Although the documentary did not secure the award, Wine’s presence at the event provided a platform to amplify his message of change and reform in Uganda.
