On Thursday, the world was treated to the news of the British Prime Minister’s untimely resignation. Liz Truss stepped down because she could not deliver on the mandate she was elected upon.

In our opinion, Truss is an honest modern politician with unparalleled leadership qualities. Despite her apparent political humiliation as being one of the shortest serving PMs (44 days) in the history of British politics, the greater good of the British people seats at the very core of her heart.

What the world witnessed last Thursday is a political culture that is completely unrelatable to the African leadership situation. Africa needs urgent political reinvention, which can only come through greater political participation and civic consciousness.

We are a continent with non-performing leaders who are never accountable for their actions. African politicians keep using the populist narrative to polarize the electorate thereby, diverting the attention from the most needed accountability.

We are under no circumstance advocating for eurocentric nor western type of politics but rather core values of every meaningful leadership; accountability, transparency, priorization of public interest, integrity, even development and freedom of the press.
