Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema on Saturday inaugurated the Zambezi Free Economic Zone, a 17,000-hectare project in Kazungula district, backed by UAE investors. The initiative is set to create over 1,000 jobs and attract significant foreign investment, positioning Zambia as a global economic hub.
“This development will benefit every Zambian,” Hichilema said. “The revenue generated here will help fund free education, health, and energy development, and ensure no child sits on the floor without a desk.”
The zone will focus on sectors like housing, healthcare, and technology, with plans to integrate artificial intelligence in agriculture and mining. “Artificial intelligence capabilities will be located here to grow our economy in mining, agriculture, and tourism,” the president stated.
Hichilema emphasized the project’s role in public-private partnerships, urging stakeholders to prioritize national development. “If you are in public service, think about how to make this country better,” he said.
The Zambezi Free Economic Zone is designed to drive sustainable growth, offering incentives and advanced infrastructure. “This is how we create an environment conducive to investment and job creation,” Hichilema concluded.
