Republican Vice President WK Mutale Nalumango has reaffirmed the New Dawn government’s resolve to prosecute those who looted public resources and abused their authority during the former Patriotic Front regime.

Speaking in Parliament during the Thursday Question and Answer session, Veep Nalumango said those insinuating that the New Dawn Administration is arresting whoever has money are just making stories out of their own imaginations.

She explained President Hakainde Hichilema wants Zambians to be wealthy, adding that there is no need for people to be persecuted.

The soft spoken Vice President however said those accumulating wealth illegally will have to be prosecuted and convicted in accordance with the law:

“No one is being prosecuted but if you did wrong, I stand here on behalf of government, we want to prosecute you. And in fact if you did wrong, you need to be convicted.”

Madam Nalumango’s comments follow claims by opposition MPs that the government was persecuting its members in a bid to weaken democracy in the 18-million man southern African country.
