Zambia’s President Hakainde Hichilema made a public appearance over the weekend, quelling opposition-led rumors about his alleged incapacitation. Speculation had circulated that the president suffered a stroke and had been evacuated to his farm in Southern Zambia. However, Hichilema was seen addressing journalists on Monday morning before departing for Tanzania to attend a regional summit.

The rumors, fueled by the opposition, raised concerns about the president’s health and ability to govern. Social media narratives claimed he was unable to speak or move, sparking debate and uncertainty. The president’s public appearance on national television silenced these claims, showcasing his active role in leading the nation.

In a statement posted on his official Facebook page, President Hichilema announced his departure to Tanzania to attend the Mission 300 Africa Energy Summit. Invited by Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan, the summit focuses on energy and development across the continent. Hichilema emphasized the importance of strengthening regional cooperation and tackling shared challenges.

While in Tanzania, Hichilema is expected to hold bilateral talks with other African leaders on issues of mutual interest. His participation underlines Zambia’s commitment to regional energy initiatives and economic development.

The summit presents an opportunity for Zambia to secure partnerships that can address its domestic energy.
