Government disclosed Friday, that it plans to launch its own social media platforms following a series of accusations against global social media companies which authorities say had no interest of the country.
Shumete Gizaw, Ethiopia’s director of Information Network Security Agency, told journalists that Twitter and Facebook were negatively affecting internal politics.
Gizawe also criticised Facebook for blocking some accounts and removal of some contents.
On the run-up to the June polls, Facebook disabled several fake accounts which allegedly belonged to the government agency.
Information Network Security Agency is responsible for monitoring telecommunications and the internet in Ethiopia.
Ethiopia has gathered a team tech experts that is working to develop platforms which will replace Facebook, WhatsApp and Zoom.
