Andy Cole, a legendary former Manchester United striker, has shared important advice with 17-year-old forward Chido Obi-Martin, who is eligible to play for Nigeria.

Obi-Martin recently featured in Manchester United’s FA Cup match against Fulham, coming on in the 67th minute. Despite the team’s disappointing performance, the teenager’s brief appearance caught the attention of fans and analysts.

Cole praised the young forward for his fearless approach, saying, “He did well. At 17, what do you have to fear? He’s in the senior team now, and that gives him a chance to show his ability.”

Cole emphasized on the freedom and confidence players at that age have, explaining, “At that age, you don’t think about the consequences, and that’s the best time to play.”

The teenager, who joined Manchester United from Arsenal last summer, is still in the early stages of his career. Cole, while acknowledging Obi-Martin’s potential, remarked, “He’s still rough around the edges, but that’s expected at his age… He has a lot of room to grow.”

However, Cole also offered cautionary advice, emphasizing the importance of humility and hard work. “I only truly realized my success when I retired.

You look back and think, ‘Yeah, I did alright.’ At 17, you haven’t made it yet,” said Cole, who scored 187 Premier League goals. He added, “My advice is to keep your head down and work hard. The journey is tough, and there will be challenges, but if you stay focused, you’ll do well.”

Chido Obi-Martin’s appearance against Fulham served as a reminder of the promising future of young talents at Manchester United. However, as Cole highlighted, success in football requires persistence and focus.
