Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called on the Federal Government to ensure that the $1.07 billion allocated for healthcare in the 2025 budget is used transparently and effectively.

He warned, “We cannot afford to let these funds be swallowed by snakes and monkeys again,” referring to bizarre past claims where public funds were reportedly misused in unusual circumstances.

Atiku stressed the importance of strong auditing and accountability mechanisms to avoid any recurrence of mismanagement.

Atiku also criticized the lack of a clear framework for how the funds will be spent, noting that a large portion comes from foreign loans.

He stated, “It would be immoral for the government not to provide Nigerians with comprehensive details on how these funds will be utilized.”

He urged the administration to ensure transparency and to maximize the benefits of every kobo allocated to the health sector.
