Banyana Banyana Coach Dr. Desiree Ellis to Be Inducted into South African Hall of Fame

Dr. Desiree Ellis, the coach who led South Africa’s Banyana Banyana to their 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations victory, will be inducted into the South African Hall of Fame on November 20, 2024. Ellis joins an esteemed group of South African football legends, including Ephraim “Shakes” Mashaba, Neil Tovey, Lucas Radebe, and others. The event will honor their significant contributions to the sport.

Dr. Ellis expressed her gratitude for the recognition, saying, “I am truly humbled and blessed… I’m just so blessed.” SAFA President Dr. Danny Jordaan praised her as a “shining beacon” and a role model for both players and coaches. The induction ceremony will take place at the Montecasino Ballroom.

Dr. Ellis’s induction is a well-deserved acknowledgment of her impact on South African football and her role in empowering women’s sports in the country. It’s inspiring to see her leadership and dedication being celebrated.
